The Huntsville-Madison County Library Foundation is the non-profit that serves the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System in Madison County Alabama. In 2021 they decided to change their name from the “Huntsville Library Foundation” to better represent the community that they serve.
After polling a panel of board members, community members, and library staff, the members of the rebranding committee said that they wanted a logo that conveyed “community”, “literacy”, and “commitment.”

To illustrate these concepts, I used the Library System’s color palette of green, blue, and purple and added orange to show the commitment to the Library while still setting it apart as a separate organization. This visual link is also illustrated in the fonts I chose, using the Library’s serif font “Trajan” and the sans serif font “Avenir.”
To emphasize the Foundation’s mission for literacy and the community, I created a stylized books and people arranged in a simplified compass. I repeated the stylized book theme in the logo I created for their annual fundraiser, Vive le Livre (Long Live the Book).
